Vision |
We envision Bellewood Presbyterian Church as a body of believers in Christ who are passionate about glorifying God by serving Him in everything that we do. We see Bellewood as a family of believers of all ages that love God, extending that love to the people of the Eastside and to the far corners of the earth through meaningful local outreach and effective support of Gospel-focused efforts around the world.
First, we are a Bible-believing church, which means we seek to teach and to live what the Bible says, as a welcoming and caring community. We are also “reformed ” church, which means that our theology is based upon the theology of the Protestant Reformation and embodied not only in the teachings of theologians such as Martin Luther and John Calvin, but is also summarized and articulated in the Westminster Confession of Faith. We believe that God is absolutely sovereign and as such, is absolutely in control of all that we are and do, which shapes how we think and live.
Second, we are blessed with a congregation that is a small family, but is also blessed with a broad range of ages. We find wisdom and steadfastness in our elders, and joy and hope in our babies and young children. Bellewood is truly a home for all generations.
Third, we celebrate the role of music in our worship as well as our recreation. From traditional hymns and organs to bluegrass and banjos to cellos and autoharps, from choirs to a young child’s solo, we enjoy music and use it to the best of our ability to bring glory to God in many different ways.
Fourth, every Sunday when we gather for worship, we celebrate the Lord’s Supper. In this we are continually and intentionally brought back to the remembrance of the cross, where we find forgiveness of sins and eternal life, and the renewal of our commitment to faith in Jesus and to “love as He loved us ” (John 13:34-35).
Fifth, although we are a small, suburban congregation, we reach out and impact all corners of the globe through a thriving foreign missions program. From building churches in India to translating the Scriptures in Africa and loving orphans in Romania, Bellewood is committed to ensuring that the Gospel is carried “to every nation, tribe, language, and people ” (Rev. 14:6).
